Ok there's Larry Mullen, Roger Taylor, Ben Gillies, Lee Murray, Fergal Lawler, Charlie Watts, Ron Welty, Sterling Campbell, William Goldsmith, Mike Bordin, Chad Smith, Danny Goffey, Eddie Hedges, Ringo Starr, Adrian Young, Bengt Lagerberg, Alan White, Zac Hanson, Dave Rowntree, Bill Berry, Darren Jesse, and, who else? Oh yeah, Caroline Corr… A quote form the mid 80s, referring to musical stance in a group, and where the girls 'should be': "…lead singer, yeah, they got nice voices. Not so bad at keyboards, I guess. Guitarist…? hmm, well some can do it, I'd say that's their place if they don't sing. Drummer? Nah. That's a bloke's job, thumping the drums. Women don't have enough…stamina, muscles, or…well, it's a bloke's job. "Like you wouldn't catch me doing the dishes. You wouldn't catch me wife on the drums." achievement: Damn well most talented self taught drummer name: Caroline Corr. Not a 'bloke'. Who, apart from the lead singer of that undisclosed band, says girls can't drum? But sadly, like most drummers, she is the least mentioned member of the group. Here, we have a girl who is all woman, not an anorexic twig. She has a face far more beautiful than ANY of those so called 'super' models, and is truly an inspiration to us all. instruments >> [drums] Caroline currently uses a champagne sparkle Yamaha 30th anniversary kit. Previously, green-black Maple Stage Custom. She uses Zildjian cymbals crash cymbals....haven't noticed a ride yet! She has also been seen playing a Roland electronic kit years ago. She plays with Zildjian 5B's sticks (according to Jim on the messageboard), although the stick I got from the Manchester gig were Vic Firth 5B's :) So I guess she uses a range, as these are all provided by a music shop in Dublin as part of her sponsorship. One of the most characteric elements of Caroline's onstage visuals are her trademark black gloves. She wears them as from previous experience, hours of drumming night after night had given her painful blisters, so after searching far and wide for gloves that fit comfortably she found the best in golf gloves! That's so Caroline LOL! =Þ [bodhran] As The Corrs do perform acoustic sets regularly, Caroline found that the drums just didn't quite fit in, so since the bodhran had always been a part of the Irish music influence in her life she told a friend that she'd like to get one. Her friend went out bought her a bodhran and learnt through a video by Stefan Hannigan. Many of you have probably noticed the bodhran Caroline uses (or used in the 1998 days of RAH) with the Irish. It is inscribed "To Caroline, made by Eammon McGuire" (translated). [piano] Caroline (along with the other three) were taught classical piano as children but she was the only one to persevere with this instrument gaining a diploma qualification, presumable up to Grade 8. As of late she has been playing piano on stage for Runaway. Technically in gigs (UK Tour 99) the piano used was a keyboard inside a piano shell but you know what I mean. She did use an actual piano in Unplugged. [other] See the girl is so talented she needs the 'other' category to categorise her musical skill! The other instruments of choice (or forceful coersion!) is the tamborine. She plays this on several occasions during Unplugged...very cute! Also she can be seen on the bongos during Everybody Hurts. Another brilliant performance..need we say more 'cept for "Rock on Bongo Baby!" rofl! :) Caroline, while the most shy and reserved, also quite insecure, member of the group, is also the one to be admired for her confidence and the way she has handled fame. Unlike many insecure young stars, she has not changed to accommodate fame, but has remained down to earth and has let the changes go on around her, while keeping quite calm. She does as she likes, not doing every move to accommodate the media. But she is still hidden. On tv performances, how many close ups do we get of the drummer? About one less than we get of the bodhránaí; even when she was between Jim and Andrea once on Hey Hey there were remarkably few close ups. This girl is too beautiful to be constantly concealed by a drum kit, but that's how it goes, and The Corrs would be hardpressed to find a drummer even half as good. Keep
the rhythm,
Feel the music, One-two-three-four…nice
and slow. Roll
then crash and change the tempo; Drummers
keep the beat in tone. Softly
tipping light the bodhrán, Then
bash the cymbals, make it loud! But
sadly behind the big percussion, The
gorgeous face hides from the crowd.
q u o t e s | by caroline "I had a phase where I'd only wear tracksuits, which was quite horrible!" "I would like not only to have a successful band, but I want to have children, a home, and a husband. Two or three. Children, not husbands!" "Actually, I wear the nail polish to hide how grubby my nails are" "I can drive...a golf buggy!" "We're from a small town called Ire...er...(giggles) " "When I was drumming with Mick Fleetwood I thought I looked half mad. I thought I looked half crazy"
q u o t e s |on caroline "Caroline should be a politician - ask her a question and she'll always answer a different one! She's also very determined. She decided last year she's play the drums. She had a boyfriend with a set, learned how to play, and now plays on stage. She never goes out of time! " - john hughs "You've been talking so long, are you planning to go solo?" - jim "Oh, myself and Caroline kind of imagine ourselves in 10 years time, living together... " - andrea "I started playing the violin when I was six and a half. And what actually happened was there was a violin teacher that was new in our town, and he was starting pupils off at the age of three, so they tried Caroline out first, 'cause she was three. But she was much more interested in the fact that he had big ears and red hair and freckles. So she wasn't... she couldn't keep her concentration so I got sent to the lessons and I just kept it on for years, and I'm still playing it in the band." - sharon |
